“Hey, I haven’t seen you here before. Are you new?” the girl asked, wide smile on her pretty face.
“Uh, yeah. I just moved here from out of town for school.”
“Oh, are you going to Unnecessarily Religious School, too?” She asks, seemingly excited. “I’m in my third year. You must be a freshman, then? What’s your major? I’m Sally, by the way.”
“Um, Criminal Psychology. And I’m Lonely. Lonely McGullible.”
“Oh, Psychology! That’s admirable. I’m majoring in Elementary Education. You should come to our small groups! Me and a couple other juniors host them for new freshmen.”
Lonely, taken aback by how quick Sally was to invite her to be a part of a group, stuttered through a non-committal response. However, Sally was undeterred, and proceeded to give Lonely the information in case she changed her mind. Over the next few weeks, Lonely would come across Sally around campus. Everyone seemed to love her, but Lonely was concerned. She had been let down by people she called friends more than once in her life. She knew she should just focus on school and not let personal relationships distract her. However, she was a very long ways from home and didn’t have many people to talk to even online.
