Those Darn Millennials

I started a new job at the beginning of this month working for a local politician as his executive assistant.

My first day on the job, I come in with my pitcher (ahem, I mea very, large travel mug) of coffee. He sees me toting around this mug, all bright eyed and bushy tailed at 9am because I sort of have to be and says “What are you not a morning person?” I laugh and jokingly say “I am when I’ve had a few gallons of coffee in me!”

He shakes his head and scoffs “Hah, you darn millennials.”

I’m sorry, but since when is coffee a millennial thing? I’m pretty sure it’s a mom thing. However, I laugh it off and continue working but that one phrase has stuck with me my entire first month there. It made me notice some key things. First and foremost, these people have no idea what being a “millennial” is like.

A few things before I start off. I work a full time job and only get paid for part of it. I get in around 8:30am and leave around 6pm, and I am only getting paid from 10am-3pm. The reason I’m there at those hours is because my husband and I share a car (hello, millennial. We can’t afford two car payments!) and he works 9am-5pm at his job 40 minutes in the opposite direction of my job.
